When Access Fails, Patients Suffer: CMS’s Next Move Could Decide the Future of Dialysis Care

Every day, thousands of Americans living with kidney failure depend on reliable vascular access for life-sustaining dialysis treatments. Yet for years, the very providers who make these procedures possible have struggled to keep their doors open.


That’s why the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) proposed 2026 Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) and 2026 Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) Proposed Rule Comment Letter updates mark a critical step forward. For the first time in nearly two decades, CMS is proposing to modernize outdated payment formulas and remove unnecessary reporting burdens that have long disadvantaged non-hospital providers.
